Girls Varsity Ice Hockey
2018 - 2019
Head Coach: Kimberly Nanof
The Kent’s Hill School Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team has been a solid program since its inception in 2002. With the completion of the Alfond Athletics Center, the school made a commitment to support a girls varsity program that could compete alongside the already established boys program. After 14 seasons, the team has had an impact in a very competitive New England Prep School Girls’ Ice Hockey League. Although the girls compete every year for the Division II title, and regular season games consist of the most talented schools from that division, we also compete against several others seeded in Division I, resulting in a schedule is not only demanding, but that allows the team to play some of the most talented girls in New England.
In five out of 14 seasons, the Kents Hill School’s Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team has been one of the top eight seed in Division II, earning the Runner-up All New England title at the end of the 2004-5 season. Since the league includes all of the schools that provide a varsity girls ice hockey program, the Kents Hill girls compete with upwards of 30 other schools for this honor; and this is only those that participate in Division II and does not include those that are contending for the Division I title. Even though the program continues to distinguish team successes, there have also been notable successes on the individual level.
Under the direction of only three head coaches since the program’s inception, four Kents Hill Alums have moved on to play Division I college hockey at Providence College, The University of Vermont and Sacred Heart (two). Several girls have moved into the Division III college ranks, including college teams such as; Utica College, New England College, UMass-Boston, St. Thomas University, Saint Mary’s University, the University of Southern Maine, Bowdoin, Wesleyan, Salve Regina, Mt. Allison, St Olaf and Norwich.
Under the direction of the returning Head Coach Kimberly Nanof and Assistant Coach Emilie Arseneault, the team’s immediate future looks promising. After assistant coaching for four seasons under the direction of the program’s first coach, Head Coach Nanof led the team for another six years until stepping away from the program at the end of the 2012 season. After a three-year hiatus, Coach Nanof has been newly re-appointed for the upcoming 2016-2017 season. She is a graduate of Boston’s Northeastern University where she lettered in Women’s Ice Hockey four times from 1991-1995 and served as the team’s captain during her senior season. She saw two ECAC quarter final bids, two ECAC semi-final bids and one Beanpot victory as an undergraduate. Coach Nanof has coached in many different capacities for nearly 20 years, including voluntarily coaching at her alma mater from 1998-2000 as Northeastern’s Goalie Coach-Consultant, and working several summers with the USA women’s U-14/U-15/U-16/U-17 development programs, as well as numerous other camps, festivals and showcase teams. Entering her second year behind the bench for the Huskies, Assistant Coach Arseneault is a graduate of Brewster Academy and Union College where she played Women’s Ice Hockey successfully. Fluent in French, she brings a great deal of knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment to the program.
