All In for Kents Hill School

  • Boys Varsity Basketball

    2018 - 2019
    Head Coach: Brian Smith

Kents Hill Boys Basketball has come a long way since its inception in 1894, just three years after the invention of the game in Springfield, MA in 1891. The basement of Ricker Hall, now the home of the school bookstore and student center, was once the basketball gymnasium where players had to maneuver around support beams. Needless to say, this was a huge advantage for the home team. From those humble beginnings the sport has grown at Kents Hill, moving from there to the Newton Gymnasium until 200,1 when the new Alfond Athletics Center was constructed. In 2002, Kents Hill joined the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference for Boys Basketball and has competed in both Class B and more recently, Class C. The current goals of the program are to play a competitive schedule against other prep opponents and to play the game with intensity, intelligence and sportsmanship.
Recently, Kents Hill has been extremely competitive in Class C action. The Huskies qualified for their first NEPSAC postseason in 2013 and just missed out on the playoffs in 2014. In addition to team success, Kents Hill has had a number of excellent players make their way through the program. In the past 12 years, the Huskies have sent players on to play at all three divisions of college basketball. Kents Hill has had two recent graduates move on to Division I programs. Nikko Acosta, a graduate of the class of 2007 and a 6’9” center, played for Lamar University and now plays professionally in Central America. In addition, Sam Sigal, Kents Hill Student Athletic Director and Team Manager until his graduation in ’07, served on the managerial staff at West Virginia and after transferring in 2010, at Rider University.
