Home of the Huskies

The mission of the Kents Hill athletic program is to provide an opportunity for all students, regardless of athletic ability, to regularly exercise while learning personal and athletic skills. Sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, and teamwork are introduced and reinforced daily. These skills help the students long after they leave Kents Hill School. Through practices and competitions, students will become better athletes and maintain a level of physical fitness, which is intended to promote an increase in confidence, achievement, and self-esteem.

Kents Hill offers a variety of athletic programs to meet the needs of our students. Students must participate in an athletic event each season. For more information on Athletics at Kents Hill please contact our Director of Athletics Doug Friedman

  • Old School Pond Hockey

The student-athletes at Kents Hill are very fortunate to have outstanding facilities, including the Harold and Ted Alfond Athletics Center, which houses the Bonnefond Ice Arena and the Husky Hockey teams. It would seem strange that the Boys Varsity Hockey team would ever want to venture outside of the arena they call home for practice but on Thursday they loaded up onto buses driven by their coaches to take the short drive down to Torsey Lake.  The coaching staff surprised the team in their locker room prior to practice to let them know they would be heading outside. After  victories in five of their last six contests, this news was very well received, especially by Junior team member  Erik Throndson, from Apex, North Carolina. The rugged defenseman  has never skated on an outdoor lake before.  “It was something I have wanted to do for a long time, and with all the lakes around campus I was hoping we could get out and play.” Throndson said. “Today was just a great day”, he added.
Earlier in the day the coaches had scouted out the lake and prepped it for the team’s arrival by spending some time shoveling off their rink dimensions for the afternoon skate. They grabbed a couple of the mini-nets from the Alfond to finish of their outdoor playground.
Once the team arrived to Torsey, they all quickly put on their skates, helmets, and gloves. The excitement could be seen on their faces as evidenced by their laughs and smiles. Once laced up and buckled up they were off.  They started by skating in the cleared rink area but it was decided that before the team play their pickup games that they would venture down Torsey Lake to the Kents Hill Ski area, close to  a mile away. The player’s skates glided across the ice and through the short fluffy covering of snow from the previous day. They travelled together and at quick glance appeared like a pack of wolves moving quickly on the frozen lake.  After a team picture to capture the moment, they raced back to the rink for some action. Time passed quickly as many games were played. This was sure to be a day that Erik and his teammates would not forget.

  • "Husky Hill Stompers" Win Junior Division at 12 Hours of Bradbury!

On Saturday, mountain bike team members Captain Ben Danielson, Drew Blackstone, and Jonathan Sale spent the day racing at Bradbury State Park in the 10th Anniversary of the 12 Hours of Bradbury citizens race. Unlike other events like point to point or specific distance races, this endurance event tests how many times your team can complete a 7+ mile course in 12 hours. Individuals can race solo or on 2, 3 or 4-person teams. The boys teamed up and entered the 3-person junior age group as the Husky Hill Stompers and dominated! Out of 300 participants; 70+ of whom were juniors; 20 three-person teams; 9 three-person junior teams; the boys won the 3-person junior division, were 3rd fastest compared to all 3-man teams and were 6th overall including all 4-man teams! This remarkable achievement was accomplished by completing 16 laps with an average pace of 43:35 per lap meaning each racer circuited the loop 5 times equaling 35+ off-road miles. Only 2 four-man teams ran 17 laps. Drew was the anchor of the team: he completed 6 laps (42+ miles) with a pace of 40.05 minutes per lap including going back to back for the last 2 laps, the final lap in complete darkness! He also set the 4th fastest lap time of the day among all competitors. It was a great team effort!
