SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS

Josie C. '25 (VGBB)
No one works harder in practice/games, and she literally has a smile on her face in the middle of games as she's flying down the court. She just loves to compete at whatever she's doing. She's a great teammate and never makes it about herself, but when she enters the game she gives her all. In 22 years of coaching, I've never had a player hit the floor more often, and it's not close. She dives for every loose ball with reckless abandon. Hustle personified! – RJ Jenkins, Coach

Matt I. '24 (VBIH)
This is Matt's third year at Kents Hill School and in his everyday life on campus, Matt always demonstrated dedication to his teams, fellow student athletes, teamwork, and rules of the game. Matt was one of our two outstanding Captains this year. He was someone we could rely on. Matt has been a leader through his actions - in the classroom, in the community, in the locker room, and on the ice.

When I first started coaching hockey at Kents Hill, I was told that the boys in the hockey program set the tone on campus for the rest of the student body. And I always recruit kids with that in mind. Matt has been a big part of establishing that culture at Kents Hill with his words and actions - and deserves an enormous amount of credit. He's become a top student, a proctor, a Captain and a leader.

Matt has demonstrated incredible growth over the last three years. On the ice, he has been our rock and a leader on defense this season - playing big minutes in all situations. Off the ice, we relied on him as a leader and we looked to him to represent the hockey program the right way on campus and beyond Kents Hill, while leading his teammates by example. Matt Ionta is someone who has brought honor to Kents Hill through his performance in and outside of athletics. Matt will always be a Husky and I am excited to follow his journey and continued growth after Kents Hill. – Pavel Naavrat, Coach
