Through the Lens: How Jack Power '22 Turned Passion into Opportunity

If you've ever admired an action shot of a Kents Hill hockey game or ski race, or liked a dramatic photo of Bearce Hall on Instagram, you've seen the world through Jack Power's lens. A member of the Class of 2022, Jack was rarely seen on campus without his camera. He photographed dozens of athletic competitions, capturing everything from game-winning celebrations to quiet moments in a huddle. Jack's work was so strong that many of his photos have been featured in Kents Hill marketing materials and across our social media.

This fall, Jack was interviewed by Bradley Warren of NonStop Local News Montana about his incredible internship opportunities with both the Montana State University Athletics Department and the White House. Jack spoke about his passion for photography and how each moment behind the lens fuels his love of storytelling.

While majoring in photography at Montana State University, Jack spends his weekends capturing the rush of Bobcat Athletics – the athletes, the crowd, and what he calls “a sea of gold.” One of his favorite images from his time at MSU was taken on top of the scoreboard during the iconic Gold Rush game – and it perfectly shows his ability to capture atmosphere and emotion all at once.

His experience at MSU opened a door for Jack that few photographers ever walk through – a summer internship with the White House Photo Office. During his internship he photographed cabinet secretaries, events, and even a take off of Marine One. His favorite photo was from the Fourth of July, where he captured a powerful shot of a B-2 flyover above the South Lawn.

Jack is back in Bozeman for his final semester, and he's continuing to do what he loves: giving viewers “a window into what it's like to attend a Bobcat event.” His journey from Kents Hill's athletic fields to the White House reminds us that passion paired with drive and opportunity can take you anywhere. Jack embodies the spirit of a Kents Hill alum – talented, driven, and passionate. We can't wait to see where his photography career takes him next.
