Fall Athletic Awards Celebration 2024

Fall Athletic Awards Celebration 2024

On Monday evening, November 18, in the Bodman Performing Arts Center, our community gathered to celebrate our fall athletes. It was a successful season for our Huskies as they brought home MAISAD Championships, several MAISAD and NEPSAC All League Selections, as well as many other individual accolades.

Girls Varsity Soccer
It was a great season for our girls varsity soccer team. With a final record of 12-9-1, the team demonstrated grit, teamwork, and dedication every step of the way. There are so many moments to be proud of from this season. They won the Chair Exchange Game versus Hebron, a tradition that always brings excitement and pride to the team. They finished first in the MAISAD regular season, made it to the final of the MAISAD tournament, and even qualified for the NEPSAC tournament! The team continued to battle through the ups and downs, showing incredible resilience and courage. This was a season full of growth, hard work, and moments to hold onto for years to come.

Their hard work and dedication to themselves and the program paid off as they achieved some truly historic milestones. For the first time since 2010, the team earned a spot in the NEPSAC tournament. The team also made a strong run in the MAISAD tournament, advancing to the finals, where they fought hard but ultimately fell short. The growth and progress the team showed, both individually and collectively, is something to be extremely proud of.

Boys JV Soccer
This season our boys junior varsity soccer team faced challenges that tested their resilience and determination like never before. While the final record of 0-7 doesn't reflect the hard work and commitment shown by each player, the true measure of this team was their unwavering effort throughout the season. Despite not having the success they hoped for on the scoreboard, our players showed incredible heart, fighting to the very end of every game. They stuck together as a unit, and finished the year together as a family. The season might have not gone the way they envisioned it, but they still have so much to be proud of.

Varsity Field Hockey
Our varsity field hockey team had quite the season this year. This season was full of growth, perseverance, and many accomplishments. Every season, the team faces the unique challenge of integrating first-year players, and this year was no different. Learning a new sport takes tremendous effort and dedication, and that is exactly what our athletes did this Fall. With a final record of 5-6-3 they showed remarkable improvement from the previous year. The real highlight of the season came when the team made it all the way to the MAISAD finals, where they beat Gould and brought home the MAISAD trophy. This victory was a true testament to the hard work and growth our girls showed over the course of the season. We are eager to see how the program continues to grow.

Mountain Biking
Our mountain biking team faced numerous challenges this season, but they met each one with determination and grit. Despite dealing with broken bike parts, flat tires, and mechanical failures in the middle of races, our athletes refused to quit. Whether it was carrying their bikes to the finish line or finding creative ways to repair them on the fly, our riders showed exceptional character in their ability to never give up. Additionally, our mountain biking team doubled in size this year compared to last, and we hope to continue to build upon that in years to come. This season we had several standout performances. Kaira F. '28 deserves special recognition for her exceptional performance, earning third place at the New England Championship and third overall for Class C in the Eastern Division.

Varsity Cross Country
Our cross country running team has shown remarkable improvement this year, both individually and as a team. Over the course of the season, each runner continued to improve their times and break personal records. They entered the season with the difficult task of replacing key runners from last year, and yet, despite those losses, both girls' and boys' teams rose to the occasion and performed beyond expectations.

Our girls team had an unbelievable season, going undefeated in every race except for the Festival of Champions where they finished 29th out of 61 teams. Additionally, they finished their season off by winning the MAISAD Championship and the NEPSTA Championship. The addition of more runners this year not only strengthened our roster, but also brought back a new energy and enthusiasm to the program. We are excited to see how the team develops in years to come.

Our boys team also had a highly successful season. They won one regular season race, finished second in two races, and both fifth and sixth once. They finished their year off placing second in the MAISAD Championship and fourth in the NEPSTA Championships. While they faced fierce competition, the boys consistently pushed themselves each day to get better. The growth of our boys' team, particularly in terms of individual performance, has set a strong foundation for future success of the program.

This season has been one to remember for our golf team. We had a remarkable run, finishing second in the MAISAD championships and third in the Class C State Championships, narrowly missing second place by only one stroke. A special congratulations to Amelie Z. '25, who not only claimed first place in the State Championships, but also qualified for the New England Interscholastic Golf Championships. The team showed consistent dedication and performance over the course of the season. Sportsmanship Award Winners
Kaira F. showed the utmost respect to her coaches, teammates and competitors throughout the mountain bike season. After each race, no matter where she podiumed, she would congratulate her competitors by approaching them with a knuckle bump and words of encouragement on a great race. Once her race was complete, she caught her breath, and had a packet of fruit snacks or a cup of apple cider, Kaira would be on the race course, cheering on her teammates, and connecting with those around her. One the road in the van, in the garage before practice, and during our team meetings, Kaira would step in and redirect her teammates when they were veering off course. Throughout the season, she navigated difficult conversations with composure and confidence. Our coaching staff was proud to have Kaira as a member of the Kents Hill Mountain Bike team this season and looks forward to seeing her continue to grow throughout her high school career.

Amelie Z. stands out not only for her exceptional skills in a sport largely dominated by male athletes but also for the grace and dignity with which she carries herself. Despite the often competitive and high-pressure environment, she remains composed and respectful, embodying a level of sportsmanship that is rare in such settings. There was a moment during a practice where she apologized to me for an incident I hardly even noticed — a testament to her self-awareness and commitment to maintaining positive relationships, even in the midst of competition. What truly sets her apart, however, is her genuine support for others, particularly her opponents. She never hesitates to offer encouragement or empathy, even for those who may not share the same level of honesty or integrity she brings to the game. Her approach to competition is one of mutual respect, and she actively fosters an environment where all athletes can grow, regardless of their skill level. Amelie doesn’t just compete; she elevates the entire community with her attitude, showing that true strength lies not only in victory but in how you treat others along the way.
