Kents Hill School Names Steve Kasper as Head Coach of Girls’ Varsity Prep Hockey

Kents Hill School is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Kasper as the Head Coach of the Girls’ Varsity Prep Ice Hockey team.

Steve is a veteran of 13 NHL seasons with extensive coaching experience at the professional level. Most notably, he spent the majority of his playing career with the Boston Bruins before serving as the team’s Head Coach during the 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 seasons.

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Steve was drafted by Boston in 1980 and earned the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL’s top defensive forward in his second season. Following his playing career, he transitioned into a range of professional coaching and scouting roles.

Steve and his family reside in Andover, Massachusetts, and he will join the Kents Hill community in November as the school’s first Coach-in-Residence, a new model designed to bring world-class talent directly to Maine. During the season, he will live on campus, working closely with Kents Hill athletes while also offering youth clinics and mentorship opportunities for the broader community.

“The Coach-in-Residence model reflects our belief in being Grounded in Maine, Connected to the World - anchored in the strength of this campus and community, while enriched by voices and talents from around the world,” said Head of School Dr. Molly T. MacKean. “With Steve joining forces with our passionate and talented team of coaches, we are excited to imagine artists, writers, and other residents joining us in the years ahead, each adding to the richness and vibrancy of the student experience.”

Becky Kimball, Director of Athletics, adds, “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Steve to Kents Hill School and begin to integrate his signature coaching style and philosophy into our program as we continue to grow confident, resilient student-athletes. He is a master of the game, and we look forward to a fantastic hockey season ahead.”
