Kents Hill School Names Andrew Willihan as Director of Snowsports and Assistant Athletic Director
Kents Hill School is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Willihan as Director of Snowsports and Assistant Athletic Director, effective November 1, 2024.
Andrew brings over 20 years of impactful experience as a nationally recognized collegiate coach, coach trainer, and program director. As a passionate advocate for youth athletics and student-athlete development, he recognizes the importance of meeting the unique needs, goals, and expectations of every student and their family - every day - while embracing Kents Hill’s legacy as one of the few independent boarding and day schools with its own skiing and snowboarding facility just steps away from the central campus. As Director of Snowsports, Andrew will draw on the wealth of his expertise to elevate Kents Hill’s entire snowsports program - including recreational and competitive skiing, snowboarding, and freeski - and position the Joanne and Dick O’Connor Alpine Training Center as a premier destination for skiing and snowboarding instruction in Maine.
Andrew currently serves as the Director of Snow Sports and Head Men's and Women's Alpine Skiing Coach at the University of Maine at Farmington. Since joining the program in 2016, he has led the skiing, snowboarding, and freeski programs to new heights, most notably being named the 2022 United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Coach of the Year and coaching athletes to numerous All-American, All-American Academic Honors, national titles, and regional titles.
"I am very humbled and excited to be welcomed into the Kents Hill School community,” Andrew said. “I have always admired Kents Hill for its community, facilities, location, and legacy in the state of Maine for impacting student athletes' lives. My goal is to meet everyone where they are, support their passions, and give to them what was given to me … a love for snow sports, athletics, and pathways for success.”
Prior to the University of Maine at Farmington, Andrew spent 14 years at Carrabassett Valley Academy, a leading ski and snowboard academy in Carrabassett Valley, Maine. His roles included Weekend Program Coach, Weekend Program Director, Head U14 and U16 Coach, Eastern Regional Women’s National Coach, dorm parent, soccer coach, and athletic administrator.
He holds certifications as a USSA Alpine Coach (Level 300), USSA Skills Quest Evaluator, USSA Alpine Official (Referee-2), and was recently named to the USSS National Alpine Sport Education Faculty, becoming one of 24 examiners in the United States. He also sits on the USCSA National Board of Directors as the Vice President of Sport overseeing alpine, nordic, freeski, and snowboarding.
