Athletic Training
Rich brings over 32 years of experience in athletic training and sports medicine to Kents Hill, including 12 years as an outpatient rehabilitation provider. Specializing in the prevention, recognition, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, Rich is well-versed in conditions such as sprains, strains, contusions, dislocations, and sports-related concussions. He has particular expertise in ACL injury prevention and post-surgical return-to-play programs. Rich plays a crucial role in the healthcare of our active students, collaborating closely with our campus health center and local providers to ensure timely access to the care necessary for each student's needs.
Throughout his career, Rich has provided medical coverage for a wide range of sports programs, including middle and high school sports, collegiate athletics, international cycling and Olympic rowing events, professional rodeos, as well as numerous community road races and mountain biking events.
As an educator, Rich has developed several continuing education programs on topics such as "The Pediatric ACL," "The Female ACL Injured Athlete," "The Aging Athlete," "Sports Medicine in Extreme Sports," "The Athletic Shoulder," and "Joint Health Fundamentals." He is also an American Heart Association-certified CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor, frequently offering training for staff and coaches.
Before joining Kents Hill in 2024, Rich spent 17 years with MaineGeneral Sports Medicine, where he provided care for several area high school sports programs. From 2001 to 2005, he worked at Pro Therapy Services in Oakwood, Georgia, serving as a staff athletic trainer, physical rehabilitation provider, and clinic manager. Rich began his professional career in 1993 in Anderson and Clemson, South Carolina, where he worked as a physical rehabilitation provider and staff athletic trainer for Clemson Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.
