Kents Hill Boys Varsity Soccer 2nd in NEPSAC Championship 11/25/2005 Kents Hill was defeated by a strong Groton Academy team in the NEPSAC Championship game on Sunday, November 20th.
Kents Hill lost the coin toss and were forced to play against a strong wind in the first half. This made it difficult for the team to move the ball to the opponents end of the field.
Groton has a skilled team and they dominated the first half, moving the ball very well down their wings. Henry Gleason registered 10 saves in the first half, but an ummarked man on a cross slid one in and the score was 1-0 at halftime.
With the wind at their backs, Kents Hill dominated the first part of the second half, with the entire Groton team defending in their own box on many occasions. Unfortunately, a Groton player put up a soft cross with 15 minutes left that floated its way into the goal for a 2-0 lead. Kents Hill moved two more players forward, but were unable to register a goal. The game ended 2-0.
The team was awarded the silver bowl for second place in New England at the end of game ceremony. The team was trying to register the biggest turn around in New England soccer history and go from last place last year (0-11-0) to #1 in New England this year. Although they came up short, the team had a fantastic season. Congratulations to all of the boys on the team!
