Kents Hill fencers Zach Boylan (bronze in Foil) and Robbie Mosher (bronze in Epee) also medaled. 2/22/2010 On February 5, 2010 Kents Hill started a new tradition: Signing Day. Signing Day is when student-athletes sign their letters of intent for the Division I or II NCAA college they have decided to attend and play their chosen sport. Having students go on to play college sports at the highest level is nothing new for Kents Hill athletes, but this year Coach Gritti wanted to make sure students were celebrated for the achievement of having the athletic talent combined with the academic effort to be able to play and study at the premiere level of college athletics. 2/12/2010 Three varsity field hockey players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) High School National Academic Squad. This honor recognizes contributions made to in varsity high school field hockey while maintaining a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 of better. 12/28/2009 Kents Hill School graduate, Oliver Kell ’06, finished his college football career this fall. Kell played all four years for Coach Dave Caputi at Bowdoin College. At Bowdoin, he set 12 school records as quarterback, including: pass completion (510), passing yards (5872), passing touchdowns (36), completion percentage (58%), and total offense (6700 yards). 12/16/2009 Over this past Thanksgiving Break, Kents Hill’s field hockey team traveled to England to visit and play against Kents Hill’s sister school, Kent College Pembury. 12/3/2009 November
In one of the greatest games in the history of the 121 year rivalry between Kents Hill and Hebron, Kents Hill defeated Hebron Academy and reclaimed the Headmaster’s Chair. It was highlighted by tremendous effort by both teams, and ultimately Kents Hill was able to hold on for the hard fought win.
On the first series of the game, O’Shea Bell (New York, NY) intercepted a deep ball at the Kents Hill 19 yard line. On the very next play, Kents Hill scored the first points of the game when Bell caught an 81 yard end around pass from Roy Eastman (Rahway, NJ), after Eastman evaded 2 tacklers in the backfield. The 2 point conversion was good on a great run by Ryan Dorso (Farmingdale, ME) and the Huskies were up 8-0.
Hebron responded with a 12 play, 68 yard drive that culminated in a 4 yard TD run. The Husky defense buckled down and stuffed the 2 point conversion to keep an 8-6 lead. On the ensuing offensive possession, Kents Hill went down the field with precise short passing and power running. It was capped off by a 12 yard TD run over the right end by Dorso. The 2 point try failed but the Huskies had extended the lead to 14-6.
11/30/2009 On Wednesday, November 18, 2009, Kents Hill School will host its first New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Men’s Varsity soccer playoff game between Kents Hill School and Berwick Academy. Kents Hill recently defeated Hebron Academy for the MAISAD Championship. Kents Hill is ranked #3 in the NEPSAC Class C rankings, with a record of 10-2-1. Berwick Academy is ranked number #6, with a record of 8-3-5. 11/18/2009 On Saturday, Kents Hill will host rival Hebron Academy for two important games. Boys' varsity soccer will be playing for the MAISAD championship title. The two teams only met once this season, with Kents Hill coming out on top 2-1 in a hard fought victory on Hebron soil. The Huskies are looking for a win that will both earn the team the MAISAD title and give them momentum as they look forward to a possible NEPSAC playoff appearance next week. 11/13/2009 October
With two weeks left before playoffs, the Kents Hill boys varsity soccer team is hoping to finish strong and make their mark in New England this fall. With a record of 8 wins to only 2 losses, they are currently ranked as one of the top teams in New England (NEPSAC) for class "C" schools. With only three more regular season games to complete, the team is looking to finish the regular season with a few more wins and to qualify for the NEPSAC tournament. NEPSAC class "C" has over 25 schools represented, and Kents Hill has consistently maintained a #1 or #2 ranking. 10/26/2009 June
Jason Foley ’09 represented the Huskies in the 50th Annual New England Secondary School Lacrosse Association East/West All-Star game played at Loomis-Chaffee on May 27th, 2009. Jason was one of the two best graduating goalies selected to play on the Eastern New England Small School team. Players were nominated by their coaches and selected by their league’s representatives. Jason was instrumental in helping Kents Hill School earn an 11-1 record and the MAISAD Championship both in goal and as a midfielder. Jason earned a 6-1 record in goal on the strength of an 83% save percentage. He also scored 1 goal. Jason will be attending Roger Williams College next year. 6/2/2009 Varsity field hockey coach Randy Richardson will be coaching two teams from Maine in the Cape Cod Classic in July. The Cape Cod Classic is a college showcase for New England field hockey players and is considered to be the "New England High School Championship". Coach Richardson will be coaching a team of incoming 8th, 9th, and 10th graders from Maine in the Super Sophs division, as well as a team of incoming 11th, 12th, and PG field hockey players from Maine in the Classic division. The dates of the Cape Cod Classic are July 11th-12th and July 18th-19th.
In addition, Coach Richardson will once again be coaching a U-16 team at the USFHA Futures Regional Rumble in Virginia Beach. This team consists of some of the top field hockey players from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The Regional Rumble will take place from June 23rd - 27th. 6/2/2009 May
Kents Hill had an extremely successful spring season, with four teams and one individual athlete bringing home MAISAD titles to the school. Girls varsity lacrosse came through with another team effort to win the MAISAD championship game 9-8. Gould played with tremendous heart but it was not enough to overcome the heart displayed by Kents Hill all season. Goals were scored by Alyssa Corvi (3), Laurel Leyden (2), Thaney Cockrell (2), Casey Feeney (1) and Marie-Eve LeBeau (1). Sam Kiesel ended her KHS career with an amazing 22 saves. As was the case throughout the season, the defense was unbreakable. The girls deserved to win this title, they made sacrifices throughout the season and truly gave up the "me" for the "we". The team finished with a 9-2 record and earned their first MAISAD title in school history.

The Kents Hill varsity boys' lacrosse team earned the 3rd seed in the 2008 New England small schools lacrosse tournament. The Huskies faced 6th seeded Bancroft School in the 1st round at the neutral site of Berwick Academy. Kents Hill came out strong and worked together as a team, using a well-balanced and patient attack to earn an 11-6 victory. 5 players scored 2 goals each and 3 had 3 points total. Mike Tifft, Huyette Spring, and Nick Delp had 2 goals and 1 assist each. Jon-Mike Roy and Brian Fleming had 2 goals, while Eric Drew potted 1. Cody Southiere, Nick Kolb, Charlie Stevens, and Austin Keiser all had 1 assist. Jake Cockrell made 9 saves and gave up only 3 goals before giving way to John Kennedy who had 2 saves. 5/25/2008 The baseball, softball and boys' tennis teams all brought home MAISAD championships this spring. Baseball finished the season with a 6-4 record and faced rival Hebron in the MAISAD final. The Huskies got the bats going early and never looked back, winning in 5 innings by a score of 14-3. The Softball team also faced Hebron in the MAISAD final and after a couple of close innings early on, pulled away to win 13-1. This win rounded out an undefeated season for the softball team. Boys varsity tennis finished their season undefeated as well and won the MAISAD team championship. In addition, Freshman Tim Firestone and his PG doubles partner Trevor Crevatin won the MAISAD doubles title. They had to defeat one Hyde and two very talented Gould Academy teams in order to remain unbeaten for the season, finishing 11-0. Congratulations to all three teams and to Tim and Trevor! 5/25/2008 March
At the start of the 2007-2008 hockey season, Coach Larry Cockrell set four goals for the team to achieve. First was to win more than half of its games, second was to make it to Division II tournament, third was to make it to the semifinals in Salem, NH and fourth was to win the championship. Mission accomplished. After the Huskies beat New Hampton 2-1 in the final game at the ICenter in Salem, the team stormed the ice and mobbed goalie Brian Fleming who, with stellar goaltending, led the team in both semifinal game against archrival Hebron and the final against New Hampton.
At the end of the final game, when Coach Cockrell entered the locker room, he was at a loss for words. “If I say anything,” Cockrell said, “I know I’m going to get all emotional.” Then he led the other coaches around the room for their traditional post victory handshake (that this time turned into hugs). Assistant Coach Mike Retelle reminded the team that it was teamwork that brought them the victory. “Boys,” he said, “how many players did we have on the All New England Team?” To the chorus of “none,” Retelle said, “. . . we got it done because we’re a great team.” It was a hard won celebration. 3/3/2008 February
Congratulations to Isaac Kreisman '08 who competed this weekend in the Nordic Skiing State Championships and placed in the top 10 in both of his races. In the skate race, Kreisman placed 7th out of 63 racers in Class B, and 9th overall out of 175 racers from classes A, B, and C. In addition, he had a great Nordic race and placed 8th in class B. Well done Isaac! 2/25/2008 January
The Kents Hill Boys Hockey team went up to Stanstead College in Canada over the weekend and took a 3-0-1 tournament record into the Championship game against the host team. The Huskies scored first when Cody Southiere raced past two Standstead defenders and scored at 9:48 of the first period. Due to the stellar play of goalie Brian Fleming, the Huskies took that lead into the first intermission. The second period was scoreless despite the fact that the Huskies dominated play and hit the goal post twice.
In the third, Stanstead opened the scoring 33 seconds in on a power play to tie the score. The Huskies however, came back 3 minutes later when Nick Kolb knocked in a rebound of Matt Locke’s shot from the point. Stanstead tied the game at 5:30 of the third and took the lead for good after a scramble in front of the Kents Hill goal. The Huskies had several good scoring chances as the game wound down, but a slashing penalty with 2:30 to go slowed their momentum. Nevertheless, when the team got to full strength, the Huskies peppered Kevin O’Connor, the Stanstead goalie, with shots for the final 50 seconds so that the outcome was in doubt until the horn sounded to end the game. 1/15/2008 December (2007)
The Kents Hill Boys Varsity Hockey team beat Brunswick School 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the Brooks-Pingree Holiday Tournament. Because of a driving snowstorm, the Huskies almost didn’t get a chance at the victory. After playing their first three games at Pingree, the Huskies had to travel a much greater distance to play the final at Brooks. Both teams arrived on time, but there was some question regarding whether or not the referees would be able to make the game. Finally, at noon, an hour after the scheduled start time, the referees showed and the game got under way.
After an evenly played first period, the teams went to their locker rooms tied at zero. However, the Huskies dominated the second scoring three goals in an 8 minute span. At 12:06 James Hoeg sent Greg Haliskoe on a breakaway; Haliskoe pulled the Brunswick goalie out of position with a nifty deke and scored easily. Two minutes later Haliskoe took a pass from Brad Richard in the neutral zone, went around a Brunswick defender and “roofed” a hard shot from the top of right hand circle. Before the period ended, Trevor Crevatin scored from the slot with assists going to Haliskoe and Ben St. Germain.
Jon Michael Roy closed out the Kents Hill scoring 5 minutes into the third when he stuffed in a rebound during a scramble in front of the Brunswick net. Brunswick averted the shutout by scoring its only goal with less than a minute to go in the game. Brian Fleming, who was in goal for the Huskies, came up with numerous key saves. 12/19/2007 November
Congratulations to Maria Youngman '08 who was selected to the All-Galaxy Lacrosse 2nd team. Maria played with IAS at the National Championships in July in Malvern, PA. There were twenty-one teams and she was one of a select few who were selected to one of the All Galaxy teams. Great work Maria! 11/29/2007 The boys soccer team earned a dramatic win over Pingree on Wednesday to move on to the NEPSAC semi-finals. Kents Hill went ahead in the first half when Daniel Masik scored off an assist from Ben St. Germain. The Huskies took the lead into the second half but Pingree was able to even the score and at the end of regulation, the score was tied 1-1. The two teams headed into two, five minute sudden death overtime periods and during the first, both teams had opportunities to win but neither capitalized. Finally, with one minute left in the second overtime, Kents Hill capitalized on a throw in from Ben St. Germain that was put in the back of the net by Daniel Masik to win the game.
Kents Hill will play Tilton Academy (#1 seed) in the semi-finals on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Berwick Academy. Congratulations and good luck!! 11/16/2007 The Kents Hill boys and girls varsity soccer programs both had big wins against Hebron on Saturday. The two teams were playing for the MAISAD championship and both pulled out dramatic wins after the end of regulation play.
Boys soccer was down 0-1 at halftime but rallied back in the second half to tie the score on a goal by Trevor Crevatin. Both teams had opportunities late in the second half but neither team was able to capitalize. It was not until midway through the second five minute overtime that Kents Hill scored the eventual game winning goal. The goal was scored by Daniel Masik, who hustled to a ball heading for the keeper and knocked it loose before the keeper had control of it, finding the open net for the goal.
Girls soccer won in an equally dramatic fashion. The girls played a great game and had opportunities to score, but at the end of regulation play the score remained 0-0. The score remained 0-0 through both the regular overtime and the sudden death overtime. The two teams then went to penalty shots and after the first set of five, Kents Hill and Hebron were once again tied. Finally, in the second set of kicks, Kents Hill came out on top 4-3 to win the game and the championship.
Both soccer teams have earned spots in the New England championships. Boys soccer is the 5th seed and will take on 4th seeded Pingree and girls soccer is the 7th seed and will take on 2nd seeded Gann Academy. Both games will be played on Wednesday, November 14th at 2:00 pm. The locations have yet to be determined.
Congratulations to both programs for winning MAISAD's and for earning spots in the NEPSAC playoffs!
11/11/2007 October
The boys varsity soccer team defeated CVA on Saturday to remain undefeated in MAISAD's with two regular season league games left to play. The 4-0 win over CVA was a similar effort to other Kents Hill wins this season, combining strong defensive play with a diverse offense that has numerous players finding the back of the net each game. 10/21/2007 September
Welcome to Kents Hill Athletics 07-08. To get everyone ready for the fall season, we thought we would share what some of the faculty did over the summer athletically.
On any given day, you might have seen Mr. Hodgin, Ms. Crane, and Mr. Smucker on the tennis courts, Mr. Pearson and Mr. McInerney on their road bikes, Mr. DeHaven, Ms. Watson and the Smuckers’ out for their daily runs, or Mr. Dunn up early to head to the golf course. Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Pettengill, Kents Hill had a coed softball team this summer and although the team was at the bottom of the league standings, it was a fun season filled with lots of good plays and laughs.
Kents Hill had a few faculty who trained and raced competitively this summer. Mr. Wheelden had great success across New England on the cycling circuit. In addition to a 2nd and 3rd place finish in his age group at the National Championships for Mt. Biking, Mr. Wheelden just won the Masters 35+ and Cat. 3 Maine State Criterium Championships. In addition, his success this summer will earn him the Vet I Expert Maine Mountain Biking Series title and he hopes to earn the “Master of Mud” title as the top overall racer in the series.
Dr. Sterling has an impressive record of her own in the sport of triathlon. A current and 5 time All-American in her age group, she has been the top female overall in 8 of her last 11 races. In the other three races, Dr. Sterling had two 2nd place overall finishes and, most recently, was the top amateur finisher, placing 3rd overall behind two pro-level women in the Cranberry County Triathlon in Massachusetts.
In addition, Mr. Moore competed in the Maine Time Trial series and Mrs. Pulsifer spent the summer training for a half marathon this fall.
On the coaching front, Mr. Cockrell and Mrs. Nanof were busy traveling all over New England and in Canada working ice hockey camps and attending showcases. Mr. Richardson coached the ME, NH, and VT region United States Field Hockey Association U-19 team at the Futures Regional Rumble. The Rumble took place during the end of June at the US National Training Center in Virginia Beach, VA and Mr. Richardson’s team placed 10th in a field of 32 USFHA Futures teams from every region in the country.
As you can see, many of the KHS faculty kept busy on the athletics front this summer. Now that summer is over, the Kents Hill Athletic Department is looking forward to seeing what our teams can accomplish this fall with hard work and determination. 9/8/2007 August
Mr. Todd Wheelden competed in the National Mt. Biking Championships at Mt. Snow Resort (VT) in July. Wheelden, a KHS faculty member and director of the Alfond Athletic Center, rode in two races at the Nationals and finished both with impressive results, earning one 2nd place and one 3rd place.
Wheelden placed 2nd in the mens expert cross-country race on Saturday with a time of 2:12:09.95, finishing only 7 seconds off of the winner from Connecticut. The next day, he placed 3rd in the expert mens short track 30+ category, a mere 3 seconds behind the 1st and 2nd place riders from Virginia and North Carolina. Congratulations Mr. Wheelden! 8/21/2007 June
The boys tennis team had no doubt that a pairing from Kents Hill would win the MAISAD Championship this spring, the only question was which one it would be. Both Kents Hill doubles pairings, John Kaufman/Fred Kauls and Bennett Resnick/Isaac Adler, won their early round matches to end up in the final. The final match was close, with the first set going to John Kaufman and Fred Kauls (7-6) in a tie breaker that went to 11-9. Kaufman and Kauls kept the momentum going in the second set and won 6-4 to earn the 2007 MAISAD Doubles Championship. Congratulations to John, Fred, Bennett and Isaac for making the finals and going #1 and #2 for the tournament. 6/24/2007 May
The varsity boys tennis team started the 2007 season off with a 6-0 record. That record combined with an impressive 13-0 record from last year put their winning streak at 19 matches. Last Saturday that streak came to an end with a 2-3 loss to a tough Bridgton Academy team that came down to the final set of the day. 5/1/2007 April

Congratulations to Nick Kolb for being named to the All-Tournament team for the 2007 Stanstead College hockey tournament. In four games, Nick scored five goals and had six assists for eleven points. 1/19/2007 In only its second season, Fencing has taken off as a popular winter sports offerings at Kents Hill School. “It’s the reason I chose to come to Kents Hill,” enthused Fencing Captain and postgraduate Amy Veshosky ’07. “I had never played the sport, and thought that it would be really cool to do this. I have been interested in all things mediaeval for years, and this fit right in.” 1/5/2007 November (2006)
Kents Hill had three teams reach the MAISAD finals this season. The Girls Soccer team suffered multiple injuries early on in the fall and struggled to score goals and win games. However, the team rallied and came together to win 4 of 5 games late in the season, including their semi-final match against Gould. The game was scoreless after regulation time ended and was still even after overtime was played. The teams moved on to penalty shots and once again, after the first round of penalty shots, the teams were still even. Kents Hill finally broke the tie in the second round of penalty shots to bring home the win and move to the finals against Hebron. The final game was even through the half but Hebron scored about 10 minutes into the second half and Kents Hill was unable to find the equalizer, though they had some great opportunities.
The Boys JV Soccer team defeated the #1 seed Hyde in their semi-final match and went on to play Hebron in the championship game. Though they were defeated 2-0, Coach Hodgin and Coach Jackson were very proud of the way the boys came together at the end of the season and the way they played in both playoff games.
The Field Hockey team split their regular season games against Gould and faced them again in their MAISAD semi-final game. The girls played an outstanding game and defeated Gould 4-2 to move on to face Hebron in the championship game. Both teams played hard and had good opportunities to score but in the end Hebron was able to find the net one more time than Kents Hill and the Huskies fell 2-1.
11/14/2006 Oliver Kell was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for football on Monday.
