Becoming a leader...Making new friends…Exploring Maine...

Class Projects begin the day after Registration in September. This is Kents Hill's way of integrating each class, developing everyone's leadership skills and exploring the beauty of Maine.

My first Class Projects was memorable. It was awkward at first, but the minute you sat down on the buses, you instantly had a friend next to you, behind you, or in front of you. I really liked this week because every new student had the opportunity to meet the returning students and become close with one of them. As a new student it made the experience easier.

  • 9th: Building Traditions – Freshmen stay at Kents Hill, discovering and learning about the history and traditions of Kents Hill School.  They also build their own traditions through the arts, and take day trips to some of the best spots in Maine.

  • 10th: Maine Coastline – Sophomores have an incredible opportunity to experience the Maine coast and wilderness. They camp together on Mt. Desert Island, sea kayaking, hiking and biking during the days.

  • 11th: Maine Environment – Juniors stay at Camp Vega, a lakeside summer camp near Kents Hill. They learn about and experience Maine's environment, and also have time to relax and enjoy the camp's facilities.

  • 12th: Whitewater Rafting – Seniors and postgraduates head north for some Maine-style adventure, taking guided whitewater rafting trips on the Kennebec River, and experiencing some of the most exciting whitewater in the state.
After all the students return to campus, sports teams have several days to begin training for their fall seasons, and then students have a day to relax before classes begin.
