The visual and performing arts are an essential and energetic part of the Kents Hill School community and a valued part of the Kents Hill experience. Both the visual and performing arts departments provide hands-on opportunities for each student to explore the arts in a wide variety of settings.

From the most inexperienced beginner to the advanced artist or performer, our programs provide plenty of scope for personal development and creativity.

*** Congratulations to Sami Stevens '10 and Alex Stevens '08 who recently performed in the Jazz All State Honors Festival in Scarborough, Maine, presented by the Maine Music Educators Association.  Both students auditioned for the festival this fall, and were invited to participate in the Honors Vocal Ensemble and the Honors Jazz Combo respectively. ***

Each year, the Visual and Performing Arts department offers an Arts Day, where the entire campus, faculty and students are engaged in arts activities and workshops with local faculty, artists and performers.

The cast and directors of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at Hever Castle, in England.  They gave two performances in the Dame Judi Dench Theater at Kent College Pembury in Tunbridge Wells, England, in May 2007.  Check out the media libraries for pictures on the right hand side!

"I like open-minded teachers who take our advice and opinions seriously to make the group sound better. I especially like how Mr. Hersom makes the music program fun: we don't just sing the same song everytime, he chooses music that we've never heard of before to make it more exciting. I love being a part of KH Singers and I hope more people join because is a great way to be creative and learn something new!“

"Before I came to KHS I never would have thought I would enjoy being in productions, let alone being in a musical! Mr. Dunn makes sure that there is a very welcoming atmosphere up in the theatre. Up there [in the theatre] there are no prejudices, cliques or niches. Everyone is welcomed the same way and that's what I think sets our drama program apart from others. There are varsity athletes, foreign students, day students - everyone and anyone from all four grades. Being in and around that atmosphere has helped me to develop my own individuality and express myself in ways I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. Because of the drama program here at KHS, I have developed a neat little passion for it and intend to try and be a part of the drama program in college and beyond."
