Applying for Financial Aid
To be considered for financial aid:
- The student must have been accepted for admission or re-enrollment.
- The student must have his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) complete a financial aid application.
The Financial Aid Application
Kents Hill School endorses the recommended policy of the School Scholarship Service (SSS) as part of the National Association of Independent Schools.
This policy states that parents have an obligation to pay for the educational expenses of their children to the extent that they are able. The parents' obligation to pay takes precedence over the school's responsibility to provide financial assistance. While the remarriage of either parent creates a new family unit with new relationships, the natural (or adoptive) parents still have responsibility for educational expenses despite any legal agreements to the contrary. Therefore, the resources of the entire new family unit are considered pertinent.
The financial aid application is the same for the custodial parent(s) or guardian(s) and the non-custodial parent. Both parties complete the Parents' Financial Statement and mail the application to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid. We suggest that you keep a copy of your application for your files. There are two important parts of the application:
1. Send the Parents' Financial Statement online:

If you would prefer a paper application, please contact Nancy Feeney at nfeeney@kentshill.org or (207) 685-4914 x112.
2. Send a copy of all involved parties' most recent tax returns and business/farm statements to:

Kents Hill's financial aid deadline is February 15th. Kents Hill School notifies students for both admission and financial aid in early March. Financial aid applications received after February 15th are considered on a rolling basis, and funds go quickly. Regardless of the date, families should always feel comfortable asking what their financial options might be for the coming school year.
Kents Hill School has a Financial Aid Committee, which reviews completed applications for financial aid. Grants are based on demonstrated need, but the Committee will consider factors such as the student's character, academic performance, and extracurricular activities and interests when determining the amount of the award.
Reconsideration
Families whose financial circumstances change or who feel that further consideration should be given to their award may ask the Financial Aid Committee to reconsider their award. All requests for reconsideration must be made in writing and are reviewed after April 1st.
Confidentiality
Financial aid applications are personal and confidential. Materials sent to the school are held in strict confidence. In return, we ask parents and students not to discuss their awards with others.
